Lactose Intolerance: Baby's Only Organic® Lactose Free toddler formula is appropriate when a baby is unable to digest lactose. This occurs because the enzyme used by the body to digest lactose, which is called lactase, is either absent or has declined. The symptoms of lactose intolerance include stomach cramps, nausea, bloating, gassiness and diarrhea.
Recovery from Illness: Following an illness that causes diarrhea, such as the flu, babies can suffer from a temporary case of lactose intolerance. This is because the intestinal tract’s ability to make the digestive enzyme, lactase, is compromised. Often times, healthcare professionals recommend a lactose free formula until the baby's digestive system has recovered and is again producing enough lactase to digest the lactose. In rare cases, the lactose in breast milk may also cause digestion challenges for a baby recovering from diarrhea. Under these circumstances, it is best to seek consultation with baby’s healthcare professional and/or a lactation consultant.
Toddlers: Nature’s One® recommends that parents resist switching their baby's diet from breast milk to milk or a lactose-free beverage once s/he reaches that 12-month benchmark. Rather, offer Baby's Only Organic® as a beverage throughout the day to provide the energy needed to support an active toddler. Other beverages fail to provide the complete nutrition and critical fatty acids as found in Baby's Only Organic® toddler formulas. Baby's Only Organic® is recommended up to 3-years of age.
Infants: For infants less than 12-months, use Baby's Only Organic® as directed by a healthcare professional. Nature's One® believes it is best to consult a health care professional before making any changes to an infant's diet. While acknowledging a baby's medical history, a healthcare professional is in the best position to discuss nutritional options that meet your baby's specific needs. Baby's Only Organic® meets the nutritional requirements of the FDA's Infant Formula Act. We suggest that you print our nutritional comparison chart and present it to your doctor.
