I expected the process of learning to breastfeed to come naturally. It turned out to be the most difficult task of my life. After four months of exclusive nursing, a second case of mastitis brought my physical and mental health to an all-time low. My milk supply suddenly dropped to almost nothing and our son had to learn to drink formula from a bottle without a moments notice. We were concerned about giving him dairy or soy, because of a suspected intolerance. We were also disappointed in the ingredients list on all the formula options we had researched that weekend.
