When My Milk Supply Wasn't Enough

When My Milk Supply Wasn't Enough

Posted by Audrey Adkins, Guest Writer and New Mom on Jul 17th 2020

As a new momma, my expectations for birth were relatively low. I knew we would leave the hospital with a baby and that was all that mattered to me. I was open to the options as long as I knew our son was healthy. I'll be the first to admit, however, that my expectations around breastfeeding were high, perhaps even unrealistic. I really wanted to exclusively breastfeed because that's what good mamas do, right?

I started breastfeeding immediately after our little guy arrived and thought to myself, "This is going to be great! It's not that difficult after all." After being discharged, our son was readmitted to the hospital within 48 hours because he would not wake to feed. He was severely dehydrated; my milk supply was not enough. I was devastated. I would need to start supplementing immediately. I didn't want to give my newborn a formula that was chocked-full of high fructose corn syrup and palm oil; however, as we did our research, we discovered that not all formulas are created equally.

Thankfully, after talking to a registered dietitian, Nature's One Baby's Only Organic® Dairy Whey DHA/ARA Formula was the right choice for us with the highest quality ingredients. The team at Nature's One was also right there alongside us helping us to choose the right formula for our little guy and helping us troubleshoot that first difficult week of sleep-deprived feeding. We are two weeks into supplementing and he is feeding like a champ and growing like crazy. We are so thankful not only for the incredible Nature's One products, but also for the excellent care and customer service we continue to receive as the weeks go on. It has put this mama's heart at rest and allowed me to focus (guilt-free, I might add!) on my little guy. If you're a mom struggling with low milk supply, you're not alone! A fed baby is best -- breastmilk or formula. Thank you, Nature's One, for helping our little man thrive!
